L’ Espresso @ Goodwood Park Hotel, Singapore

6 Apr

Dear Food lovers,

If you are ever craving for exotic DURIAN FLAVOR DESSERTS, you may give this place a try. They are currently having a promotion on Durian Fiesta on 1st March – 31st July. Found out about this place via Silk Air magazine.

L’ Espresso is located in Goodwood Park Hotel on 22Scotts Road (next to Far East Plaza).  This place is prominent choice destination for English Afternoon Tea.

“L’Espresso is a cosy café by day and a chic lounge by night, complete with a breezy poolside terrace area. This spacious and breezy terrace has also become an ideal location for wedding solemnizations.

Since the 1970s, the English Afternoon Tea has earned a reputation for L’Espresso as the “place for elegant teatime pursuits”. The buffet spread is a dazzling assortment of dainty sandwiches, salads, savouries, pastries, desserts, chocolate fountain and of course, traditional English scones.

Guests can also enjoy delightful set lunch and dinner menus, as well as gourmet dim sum and sensational cocktails in the evenings.

L’Espresso is one of the few hotel establishments that offer live entertainment in the evenings. Guests are serenaded by a wide repertoire of piano pieces performed live by an accomplished pianist on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 8.15pm. “

History of Goodwood Park Hotel

Goodwood Park Hotel, formerly the Teutonia Club was built in 1900, fashioned after the castles on the Rhine in Germany. In the 1890s, Swan and Maciaren, the first architectural firm established in Singapore was commissioned by the German community to build the club on a small hill in Scotts Road at the cost of 20,000 Straits Dollars.

The street scene outside the Teutonia Club in the late 19th century was very different from what it is today. Scotts Road in those early years was a favourite haunt of tigers from Peninsular Malaysia. The Scotts and Orchard Road area was also the home of flourishing pepper, nutmeg and fruit plantations prompting the name ‘Orchard Road’.

Between 1918 and 1929, the Hall was used as a restaurant and reception hall for weddings and entertainment.
In 1922, Anna Pavlova, the famous Russian ballerina, made her Singapore debut at Goodwood Hall.
In April 1929, the Manasseh brothers turned Goodwood Hall into a hotel, renaming it the Goodwood Park Hotel. By the end of the 1930s, it became one of the best known hotels in Singapore, patronised by such notables as the late Duke of Windsor and renowned playwright, Noel Coward.

In 1963, Mr Khoo Teck Puat, a local businessman, bought the hotel.
